How to Work Together
In situations like drowning or vehicle recovery, police officers coordinate with dive teams to ensure a swift response. The police provide initial assessments and secure the scene, while divers execute the underwater search. Police often rely on divers to recover submerged evidence crucial for investigations. This includes weapons, vehicles, or other items that may aid in solving crimes. Both police officers and public safety divers undergo rigorous training. Officers may receive basic diving training, while divers are trained in search patterns, evidence handling, and safety protocols in challenging environments. In many regions, multiple law enforcement agencies may not have their own dive teams. They collaborate through agreements, allowing one agency’s dive team to assist others in need.
This daylong program will examine how State Police departments from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts coordinate efforts and how Public Safety Divers work with them.
